PARIS Ivine Paris, age 73, of Yukon, OK, passed away Friday night, Feb. 23,
2001 at Baptist Medical Center, OKC. On June 23, 1927, she was born to Franklin
James and Gertie Gould Paris in Fairview, OK. Services will be held at 2PM
Tuesday, February 27, 2001, in the chapel of Smith & Turner Mortuary, 201
E. Main in Yukon. The Rev. Ken Marston of the First Christian Church in Yukon
will be officiating. A graduate of Fairview High School in 1946, she later
attended OSU and Central State University with a B.S. degree in Education. At
Putnam City High School, she taught Girls' Physical Education classes, coached
Girls' Track, Cross-Country, Basketball and Badminton. Ivine became the first
female Athletic Director in the state of Oklahoma. She retired in 1987 after
teaching 34 years at Putnam City High School. For 47 years, she has lived in
Yukon. She will be remembered for her sweet smile, generosity to family and friends,
and her work ethic in education and at her home. Ivine was honored by the
Oklahoma Coaches Association as the Female Coach of the Year, 1977-78. Also in
1978, she was named 4A Girls' Cross-Country Coach of the Year. In two different
years, she was chosen Putnam City Teacher of the Year. Ivine was also honored
by being inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1987.
As a member of the First Christian Church of Yukon, she was most recently the
deacon chairperson as well as serving as a deacon. In the church, she was
deeply involved with the "Wonderful Wednesday Program",
Sonworshippers Sunday School class and Mugs and Muffins Bible Study. She was a
local member of P.E.O. Chapter GK, Oklahoma County Retired Educators Association
and the Oklahoma Coaches Association. Her parents and a brother-in-law preceded
her in death. Sisters, Juanita Edgmon of Yukon, Maxine Dodd of Claremore end
Geraldine Burns-Maycumber and her husband Richard of Fairview, survive her. Her
nephews are Bob Wood and wife Kathy with their children, Brad Davenport and
Lesley Wood and Steve Wood and Randy Badger of Oklahoma City. Nieces are Karen
Willhoite and husband Ken with their children, Cale and Reid of Claremore. Also
Susan Taylor and husband Charles and their children Whitley, Shelby and Darcy
Taylor of Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may he made to the First
Christian Church, 601 Maple, Yukon, OK.
